Searching Cases by Name
Open Indiana MyCase and pick the Name tab. If you supply a first name, middle name, or birth date, a last name is still required. Enter birth dates in full mm/dd/yyyy form. Searching for a company? Use the Business field, and do not pair it with a last name.
A party-name query is not an attorney search. Lawyers live under their own Attorney tab, searchable by name or bar number. Name fields cap at 30 characters. Wildcards work only at the end, and the text has to begin with a letter or number.
- Choose Name and enter the most complete reliable spelling.
- Select the specific Morgan venue when it is known.
- Limit the search to Criminal and Citation, Civil, Family, or Probate.
- Add Open or Closed status and a filing-date range if needed.
- Open the result and confirm the court, case type, filed date, and caption.
| Field | Rule | Useful limit |
|---|---|---|
| Last, First, Middle | Last is required with other personal fields | Sounds-like for spelling variants |
| Birth Date | Full date and last name required | Remove if it is too restrictive |
| Business | Cannot be combined with last name | Use the entity name |
| Court | Defaults to all Odyssey courts | Pick the exact Morgan venue |
| File Date | From and To use mm/dd/yyyy | Reduce a broad result set |
Morgan Sounds-Like Search
Spelling variants are common, and the sounds-like option catches them. Pair it with a court, category, date, or status limit so the results stay manageable. The official MyCase search tips page spells out the field rules and fixes for common problems.

The portal stops at 1,000 results. Hitting that ceiling does not mean a case is missing. Narrow the court first, then category, status, filing date, and spelling. If a birth date blocks a likely match, drop it. Then recheck the other identifiers.
Searching by Case Number
For a Morgan County case search, nothing beats a full Indiana case number. Rule 8 combines a court identifier, the filing year and month, and a two-letter case type. A six-digit sequence finishes it off. The made-up example 55D03-2501-CT-000123 stands for Morgan Superior Court 3 and a January 2025 filing. The code also marks civil tort, plus a sequence number. It does not point to any active case.
In the Case tab, use just one identifier at a time. Choose Case Number, Citation Number, or Cross Reference. Citation numbers suit traffic matters. Combining identifiers gets you nowhere, since the portal will not search them together.
- 55C01
- Morgan Circuit Court.
- 55D01 to 55D03
- Morgan Superior Courts 1 through 3.
- 55H01
- Martinsville City Court.
- 55I01
- Mooresville Town Court.
- Case type
- A classification such as F6, CM, CT, EV, SC, MH, or PO, not an outcome.
A transfer can swap the court identifier but keep the filing sequence. Check the case header for the current court and scan the related references.
Morgan Court Choice Matters
MyCase lists Morgan County, Morgan County - Martinsville City Court, and Morgan County - Mooresville Town Court as separate choices. Pick only the county and you might miss a city citation or misdemeanor. Pick only a city court and a Superior Court filing can slip past you.
| Portal choice | Identifiers | Typical scope |
|---|---|---|
| Morgan County | 55C01, 55D01 to 55D03 | County Circuit and Superior matters |
| Martinsville City Court | 55H01 | City ordinances, infractions, misdemeanors |
| Mooresville Town Court | 55I01 | Town ordinances, infractions, misdemeanors |
No case number? Search each likely venue one at a time. The official Odyssey court list confirms these Morgan courts feed the statewide system. Brooklyn, Monrovia, and Morgantown show no separate courts in the state directory.
What a Case Search Returns
A match opens a summary, not the full official court file. The header may list style, number, court, case type, filed date, status, an active indicator, references, and related matters. What else appears depends on the case itself.
| Parties | Public names or protected descriptions, roles, and attorneys. |
|---|---|
| Charges | Criminal or citation allegations, statute, degree, and modifications. |
| CCS | Dated filings, appearances, orders, hearings, and outcomes. |
| Hearings | Date, session, reason, officer, comment, result, and possible second date. |
| Documents | Links to some public orders or filings, not a complete guarantee. |
| Financials | Displayed charges, credits, payments, and balance as of a stated time. |
Read the CCS in order, top to bottom. A canceled event does not erase the case. A filed motion is not a granted motion. A closed status is just a case-management label, so it may not settle every copy, payment, or appeal question.
Morgan MyCase Access Levels
No account is needed for public searching. The official MyCase help page details what the public display can and cannot show.

Parties can enter an access code for deeper document access in their own case. An attorney account can open confidential documents for the attorney of record. Neither permission makes protected material public. So public, party, and attorney views can differ. The Morgan County case search is not in error.
Keep roles straight: MyCase is for viewing. Filing goes through Indiana's statewide e-filing service. Searching a CCS files nothing, and an e-filing provider cannot replace the public search.
Statewide vs County Case Search
Morgan County runs no separate case-search database of its own. MyCase serves as the statewide public layer for Odyssey courts. The county side matters when you need the official file, a certified copy, an unlinked document, a current balance, or confirmation straight from the responsible court.
| Need | MyCase | Morgan clerk or court |
|---|---|---|
| Locate a public case | Name, number, attorney, and filters | Fallback when no result appears |
| Read the register | Public CCS events | Official maintained record |
| Get a document | Some public links | Plain or certified copy |
| Confirm a setting | Latest displayed event | Current official confirmation |
| Check a balance | Displayed summary | Current official amount |

Morgan Search Failures
A blank results page has several usual causes in Morgan County. The court may be wrong, the name misspelled, or the filters too narrow. Some cases predate the county's switch, and a few are restricted by law. Morgan County courts joined Odyssey on August 4, 2014. Records converted from before that date often carry fewer documents online. So a missing link is a question for the clerk. It is not proof that no filing exists.
MyCase sometimes displays a CAPTCHA challenge. Complete it normally; the prompt guards the portal against bulk requests and data mining. Never try to get around it. If searches keep failing, write down the filters you used. Then call the maintaining clerk with one focused question.
A good search trail helps. Note the portal and the court you picked. Add the name or case number, the category, and the status. Finish with the date range, the access date, and whether any document was linked. That level of detail lets records staff pull the file fast. It also spares you from copying extra private data.
Access and Restricted Cases
Indiana leans toward openness. Indiana Access Rule 4 presumes public access unless a record falls under an exclusion. Access Rule 5 then shields what qualifies. That list covers mental-health cases, certain investigative requests, privileged material, and protected personal information. It also includes anything sealed by law or court order. Juvenile, adoption, protection-order, and expungement matters can carry limits too.
Sometimes a docket shows only a notation. It tells you an item exists while holding back the protected content. Ask the Morgan County clerk whether the whole case is restricted or just one document. Also ask whether a public copy exists somewhere unlinked. Just don't ask staff to reveal confidential material.
Extraordinary access: Access Rule 9 allows a verified written request in qualifying circumstances, with notice, possible hearing, and a written order. The record remains confidential while the request is pending.
Morgan Search Statistics Context
One tool to keep straight is the Indiana court reporting system. It counts filings rather than finding them. Choose Morgan County and it can display county, court, year, report, and chart totals.

ICOR is built for statistics. It can explain filing volume and court workload in Morgan County. But it will never return a party's CCS or a document. For one public case, use MyCase. For aggregate trends, use ICOR. Confuse the two and a category total can start to look like it describes a single matter. It does not.
When you need a records request, bring the clerk the case number and the approximate filing date. Add the names on the case and the exact document title. Say whether you want a plain or certified copy. That direct route beats any attempt to guess at a missing document from statistical data.
