How to Search Criminal Dockets
Indiana MyCase handles the online docket search. It covers Morgan Circuit Court, Superior Courts 1, 2, and 3, Martinsville City Court, and Mooresville Town Court. No account is needed for public users. A full case number works better than a name. And the court choice matters. Selecting only Morgan County can leave out a city or town case.
Sometimes the online entry is missing, stale, or short a document. Call the maintaining court or visit its counter. The Morgan County Clerk handles county criminal filings and certified copies. City and town offices keep their own limited court records.
- Select the Morgan court named on the citation or case number.
- Use the full case number, or search a name with court, type, status, and date limits.
- Confirm the caption, court, filed date, and status.
- Read charges, then check the newest hearing, plea, order, or disposition.
- Ask the clerk for the official file or a certified order when needed.
Morgan Criminal Court Codes
Under Administrative Rule 8, the case number routes the filing to the right court. 55C01 means Morgan Circuit Court, while 55D01 through 55D03 cover Superior Courts 1 through 3. Martinsville City Court uses 55H01, and Mooresville Town Court uses 55I01. The letters tell you the type, not an outcome. F1 through F6 mark current felony levels. CM means criminal misdemeanor, while MC means miscellaneous criminal. PC is post-conviction relief, and the letters IF mark an infraction. A transfer can change the court identifier while keeping the filing sequence.
- Filed as
- The charge description at filing, which may later change.
- CCS
- The Chronological Case Summary, Indiana’s ordered register of events.
- Disposition
- The recorded outcome of a case or charge.
- Setting
- A scheduled event that may be continued, canceled, or reset.
The official case-code source is captured below.
A code classifies a filing. It never proves guilt, a sentence, or a current warrant.
What a Criminal Docket Shows
The style and number come first. Court, type, filed date, status, and references follow. Party and attorney blocks come next. Charge details may include offense date, statute, degree, citation, modification, and filed-as text. Bond, hearing, sentencing, financial, and document blocks appear only when they apply.
| Case number | Court, filing period, type, and sequence. |
|---|---|
| Charges | Allegations, statutes, levels, and modifications. |
| CCS events | Filings, orders, hearings, plea, trial, and disposition. |
| Settings | Date, session, reason, officer, result, and possible second date. |
| Documents | Public links where available; no link does not prove no document exists. |
| Financials | Displayed charges, credits, payments, and balance. |
MyCase is not the official record, and balances may omit later transactions. When authentication matters, the clerk's file controls.
Morgan Criminal Court Assignment
Morgan's local rules split adult felony and misdemeanor cases among Superior Courts 1, 2, and 3. Each court generally takes one-third of them. Several things can alter that route. Co-defendants, refilings, a change of judge, caseload adjustment, or another pending Morgan case may shift where a matter lands. MC matters rotate by quarter among Circuit and the three Superior Courts.
The Morgan Circuit Court page marks one key boundary. Juvenile delinquency and status cases stay in Circuit Court.
The venue on the case number remains the best guide. Residence alone never decides which docket holds a case.
Stages on a Criminal Docket
Read a Morgan criminal docket in date order. The filed charge starts the record. Later entries can change the charge, the setting, or the result. An omnibus date is a case-management point, not always the trial. Local rules put misdemeanor court trials on or after that date. A felony jury trial is generally set no earlier than thirty days afterward. That holds unless a jury is waived.
Docket flow: Charge Filed › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing
A motion entry means the motion was filed, not granted. Look for a later order or result. A "CANCELED" label applies to that one event and does not erase the case.
Morgan Criminal Filing Context
For filing context, the official 2024 ICOR Morgan criminal chart counts new filings, though it is no substitute for a CCS.
It recorded 2,188 new criminal matters. Misdemeanors led with 865, followed by 726 miscellaneous criminal files and 422 Level 6 felonies. Smaller groups included 94 Level 5, 28 Level 4, 15 Level 3, 19 Level 2, and 5 Level 1 filings.
Which Court Holds Criminal Dockets
Superior Courts 1 through 3 hold most adult felony and misdemeanor dockets. The Superior Court 1 page is an official source for that local structure.
Martinsville City Court and Mooresville Town Court take ordinance, infraction, and misdemeanor matters. That applies when they are named as venue. Their H01 and I01 codes differ from the county's D01 through D03. Historical Odyssey data may still show the abolished 55E01 Morgan County Court.
Use the current CCS. A case may have moved. Its chronological entries and related fields explain the route. The Morgan County Clerk serves as the hub for county trial-court records.
Morgan Charges Need Context
A charge is only an allegation. "Filed as" can differ from a later modification and the final disposition. Read the charge number, description, statute, degree, and each change. Only then reach the plea, trial, dismissal, or sentencing entry.
If a warrant icon or failure-to-appear entry shows up, contact the named court. A portal symbol can be old or incomplete. It never replaces a current court instruction.
Morgan Sentencing Record Trail
A Morgan County criminal docket rarely keeps sentencing details in one place. The CCS entry names the event and the judicial officer. The sentencing block, though, may carry the affected charge, confinement start, agency, term, jail credit, suspended time, conditions, fees, and a monetary award. Always read those fields next to the signed order itself. A short portal label can't carry the judge's full terms.
Need a certified sentencing order, judgment, or plea agreement? The Morgan County Clerk's copy process is the route. Give records staff the full case number, the approximate filing date, and the exact document name. Say plainly whether you want a plain or certified copy. Ask the office to confirm the page count. Transcripts work differently, since the court reporter handles those requests.
The story often continues past the first sentence entry. Farther down the chronology you might spot an amended order, a probation filing, a payment, an appeal, or a post-conviction petition. Read through the latest public event and open any linked order. When the document icon is missing, remote access may simply be unavailable even though the order exists. A clerk phone call, a counter visit, or a copy request closes that gap.
Public Access and Sealed Criminal Dockets
Access Rule 4 starts from open access. Records stay public unless the rule excludes them. Rule 5 then shields mental-health cases, certain investigations, privileged matter, personal data, and sealed records. Even so, a public indication can remain. The substance may still be withheld from the Morgan County docket.
Expungement adds another layer. IC 35-38-9 can restrict records, and the XP petition itself is confidential. Ask whether the whole case is restricted or just one document. Then ask the clerk whether any unlinked public item still exists.
Extraordinary access: Access Rule 9 provides a verified written request process with notice, possible hearing, and a written order.
Phone, counter, and copy requests still work as fallbacks. The Morgan County case search covers the portal fields in more detail.
